Asheville Elopement | Lucy + Alex

As they did for a lot of couples, Lucy and Alex’s wedding plans changed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. While they plan to host a larger celebration in 2022, they decided on an intimate exchange of vows at Asheville City Hall in September 2021 and a small reception at nearby Storm Rhum Bar to celebrate saying “I do” in the year they originally planned to get married. Nate and I were lucky enough to walk with this couple through their elopement day, capturing nerves, elation, and love along the way.

We weren’t sure we would be allowed into Asheville City Hall for the small ceremony. But both the security officers at the door and the judge who married the couple were kind enough to allow us inside. We’re so glad they did, because the joy on Lucy and Alex’s faces during the ceremony is enough to bring tears to my eyes even now. (Thanks to this beautiful couple, I’ve discovered that I can take photos and cry simultaneously.)

Nate and I had a more traditional wedding ceremony and reception in my hometown of Macon, GA. I cherish memories from that celebration and wouldn’t trade them for the world. But the more elopements we get to photograph, the more beauty I see in these intimate, relaxed ceremonies attended by small groups of family and friends.

We’re so excited to share some images from Lucy and Alex’s Asheville elopement below. Check them out, and if you’re looking for an elopement photographer in North Carolina, get in touch. We’d love to meet you!
