October in the Hudson Valley has a way of making everything feel a little more alive. The hills across the river burn amber and red, the light goes soft and gold by mid-afternoon, and the Mid-Hudson Bridge sits on the horizon like it was placed there just for photographs. Elizabeth and Matt couldn’t have picked a better backdrop — and The Grandview in Poughkeepsie couldn’t have delivered a better day.
From the moment we walked in, it was clear this wedding was going to move. Elizabeth in a stunning strapless gown with sheer glove sleeves, Matt in a classic black tux, the ceremony arch overflowing with peach and yellow blooms, and a reception that absolutely did not stop. Here’s how it all went.

Getting Ready
Elizabeth got into her dress in The Grandview’s bright, airy bridal suite. Veil on, bouquet in hand — coral dahlias, blush ranunculus, yellow garden roses — and we made some portraits in the window light before the day started moving.
First Look
The first look was on the terrace — Elizabeth and Matt seeing each other for the first time, light bouncing off the Hudson behind them. They exchanged private vows out there before the ceremony, just the two of them. From there we moved around the grounds while the afternoon held.

The Ceremony
The ceremony was held outdoors on The Grandview’s terrace overlooking the river — white chairs, string lights overhead, a floral arch loaded with peach and yellow garden blooms, and the Hudson rolling behind it all. Matt waited at the altar while guests filled in around him. Elizabeth walked in to “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” Officiated by Woody Peek, with a reading of 1 Corinthians 13 and a traditional Irish Blessing, the whole thing felt exactly as intentional as it was.

After the Ceremony
We slipped out for a few minutes while guests moved to cocktail hour — the bridge in the background, last of the afternoon light, and the first moment of quiet all day.
The Reception
The Grandview’s reception tent in October is something worth seeing. Arched windows, crossback chairs, candlelight everywhere, and a floor arrangement of golden and coral blooms around the sweetheart table that stopped people in their tracks when they walked in. Then the band started and nobody looked at the flowers again.
The first dance ended with Matt lifting Elizabeth off the ground — she threw her head back laughing, the whole room erupted. It went from there. The band guitarist jumped onto the dance floor and started working the crowd, and by the end of the night Elizabeth was crowd surfing. That’s a reception.

Elizabeth and Matt, thank you for having us. From the river portraits to the last song on the dance floor — it was a privilege to be there for all of it.
